The Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Western Macedonia has been accepted as an Associate Member in the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences – ICAS.
Established in 1957, ICAS is the largest international forum in the wider field of aeronautical science.

With the positive evaluation of the application of the Department of Mechanical Engineering by the ICAS Executive Committee, the said Department of the University of Western Macedonia is the thirty-second (32nd) associated member of this historical institution. It is worth noting that the remaining thirty-one (31) members are organizations and companies of global scope, such as: NASA, Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, etc.
This distinction is a practical recognition of the high level of scientific work of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at an international level and is expected to offer significant networking opportunities with the global aeronautical community, as well as cooperation opportunities with some of the largest companies and research centres worldwide.
