The “Playing and Communicating in the Greek Language” Programme for expatriate students has been completed

All four periods of the educational programme “Playing and Communicating in the Greek Language”, organized and implemented by the University of Western Macedonia, in collaboration with the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, were successfully completed. The program is part of a wider project aimed at expatriate students from various countries and continents, who were hosted by the Municipality of Athens, in four camping periods.

The general coordination of the program was carried out by Prof. Eleni Griva, Vice Rector for International Relations, Global Engagement and Student Affairs, while Assistant Professor Menelaos Tzifopoulos, PhD candidate Chrysanthi Markou, post-doctoral researcher Eleni Korosidou, Spyros Bouras, PhD, and Yannis Bounovas, Laboratory Teaching Staff Member of the University of Western Macedonia participated in the academic coordination.

This important project aimed to convey to children the essence and magic of the Greek summer, creating unforgettable memories and strong ties with their place of origin. During the four camping periods, 22 postgraduate and undergraduate students of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities of UOWM carried out educational games, experiential learning activities, cultural activities and creative workshops, offering expatriate students from Istanbul, Imbros, Brazil, Egypt, Ukraine, South Italy, Jordan and Albania the opportunity to get to know Greek language and culture.

The students of the first three periods were accommodated in the campsites of the Municipality of Athens, while those of the fourth period in the campsites of YMCA, in Agios Nikolaos, Halkidiki. There, in addition to the educational activities, they had the opportunity to enjoy a unique experience in an environment that strengthened collectivity, cooperation and intercultural communication.
